Entrepreneurship Project (IST 195)

Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be using this blog to discuss a hypothetical new project I wish to implement. This project involves the creation of a social networking service and website geared specifically towards singer-songwriters.
This website, which I plan to call sitesandsounds.com, will function much like other social networking services such as Facebook and Twitter; its main difference being that it will be used exclusively by musicians who write and compose their own lyrics and music and wish to share them with others. Most importantly, by using this website, musicians will have a greater chance at being discovered by the music industry who will have the opportunity to monitor the website.
On sitesandsounds.com, people will be able to add and accept friends and have a profile with their name, photo, and bio like every other social networking service, but all other facets of the website will be music related.  People will have the ability to upload audio files or videos of their songs and music, make online recordings, post the location of future gigs, join specific music genre groups according to their interest, and much more. Sitesandsounds.com will also be similar to websites like Linkedin because people will have the opportunity to connect with people in the music industry and perhaps even find jobs.

  1. The music sphere has been getting a lot more attention in the past few weeks and months with companies like Pandora going public and Facebook announcing at the recent F8 conference that they will be allowing individuals to post to their facebook what they are listening to and allow others to listen in as well. I think there is a great opportunity to leverage all of this hype and allow emerging artists to get their work out there. Even eventually integrating with something as big as Facebook could really help artists get a lot of attention quickly.

  2. I agree with this, as the digital age continues to thrive music blogs will continue to become the most efficient way for artist to promote their music. For up and coming artists popular blog sites are a necessary step for becoming an immediate success nowadays. I consider music blog sites another form of social media in that regard. Blogs open up doors for artist and determine whether or not an artist will be successful.
    Very cool idea

  3. I like the idea for your website a lot. I've always wished that websites like reverbnation and soundcloud were more interactive and that you could do more things on it. Also, I like that your trying to target more than just musicians but instead the whole music industry because there's nothing out there right that's effectively done that in terms of finding jobs.

  4. I personally really like this idea. As a (kind of) writer I often feel frustrated with how to spread my creative works around. So a social media site devoted entirely to one area of that seems like it will definitely help artists get known and also get to know the works of others. And the inclusion of including the music industry with finding jobs is the best part, since it gives people a much stronger incentive to get involved.

  5. I think this idea is wonderful. As an aspiring underground-rapper, I would love a place to share lyrics and bounce hot beats. One idea that would be awesome for the site would to have a video-chat function that could also record the music. People from across the country could then make original music together and record them. I would love to mix my east-coast sound with that hot west-side flow.

  6. I think this seems like such a great idea! Singers have been discovered on YouTube but YouTube is so cluttered with random other videos that it's so hard to actually find singers, and good ones at that. I think some things to think about when making this website would be a possible built in recording system? Something like Garageband where a user could click "record" on their own page and maybe a second window that's a simple but effective recording application would pop up. This way, users who don't own programs like Garageband could easily upload good quality music.

  7. I like this deal. your website will give more attention to the underrated artist out. Unlike mist website who embrace artist that have already made it out in the industry. I think you should Incorporate some of the aspect of the social media already out. Also have you own little twist to it.
